2009 Virginia Tech Football Preview: Running Backs

On Tuesday, Tech fans got the disturbing news that Darren Evans has been lost
for the season with a torn ACL. The Hokies lose a player who rushed for over
1,200 yards a season ago, and they must replace him with inexperienced players.
Those players have a lot of natural ability, and the upcoming scrimmages will
decide how the depth chart shakes out heading into the Alabama game.

With the loss of Evans, the Hokies returning backs have combined for 38
carries and 88 yards. All of that belongs to Josh Oglesby, as the other four
healthy running backs on the roster have never played a down in a college game.

Running backs coach Billy Hite has plenty of talent to work with. However, game
situations are different than scrimmages and practices, so these guys are still
a question mark until they prove it on the field.
