Last week we looked at the Seth Greenberg era as a whole for our first
“State of the Program” article. This week we’ll look at the talent
that is currently in the program, and compare it to Tech’s 2006-07 team, which
is the only team under Greenberg to reach the NCAA tournament.

In this talent assessment, we aren’t going to look at recruiting rankings and
offer lists. That will come in a future article. We are only going to consider
proven performance on the court, and what we know about a player, not
what scouts told us about their potential when they were recruited.

So how exactly do we measure talent? I wasn’t sure at first, until I started
looking at the individual players on the 2006-07 team and the 2008-09 team. Then
I came to the realization that the 2006-07 Hokies had players with a wider
variety of skills. I decided to put that into a points system based on different
basketball skills.
