Virginia Tech lost yet another All-American cornerback in Macho Harris, and
there will be a competition for his replacement this spring. Overall, the Hokies
are in pretty good shape with depth in their secondary. Five different players
have starting experience, and as usual, there is young talent waiting in the
wings.
Like most seasons, the Hokies enter 2009 with a budding star (Kam Chancellor)
in the secondary, and a number of young players who are just waiting to their
turn to start in what has turned into a dominant secondary every year.

While the secondary looks excellent on paper, there are still question marks at
corner. Virgil is the only proven cornerback on the team, and though someone
else is likely to step up, it’s not guaranteed.
