VT Offers Big-Time NC Defensive End

Recruiting has exploded for West Brunswick (Shallotte, N.C.) defensive end Alfy Hill , who has seen his offer total climb into the double-digits in just a 2-week span. What makes the 6-4, 245-pound standout rising senior such a hot commodity with schools all across the country?

“I think it is his speed,” answered West Brunswick head coach Jimmy Fletcher. “He is a big kid, but he can run. He is really raw, though. This was his first year of varsity football. He played JV football as a freshman, but he was injured as a sophomore. He was doing a power clean later on in his freshman year and broke his wrist. The doctor did not release him for a year. He couldn’t play football and he couldn’t lift weights. When he came back this year, we knew he was a big kid and we knew he could run but we didn’t know much else. He ended up having a great year even though he really is a year behind.”

Hill racked up 102 tackles including 12 sacks last season. A special teams force, he blocked four punts and returned a blocked field goal 86 yards for a score. Hill performed well on offense, too, hauling in 10 receptions for 190 yards from the tight end position.

Despite the injury setback, Hill had no trouble adjusting to the varsity level of football.
