Football schedules for the 2009 season were released for all 12 ACC schools
on Thursday, and it’s never too early to look ahead. The Hokies have a big-time
September schedule, and in general, making fun of Tech’s out-of-conference
scheduling philosophy is a thing of the past. We’ll discuss that, and also take
a look at some of the other ACC schedules.

Football Schedule Released
It used to be a common theme for opposing fans to make fun of Virginia Tech’s
out-of-conference schedule. Things have changed recently however, and the Hokies
have arguably the top out-of-conference schedule in the ACC this year. They play
traditional powers Alabama and Nebraska in the month of September, and in
November they travel to East Carolina for a Thursday night game. Throw in
Marshall, a respectable team, and that’s a very good schedule.
Other ACC teams aren’t exactly challenging themselves like the Hokies are
this year. In fact, Virginia Tech is the only ACC team that is not playing a
1-AA opponent this season. Three ACC teams have even scheduled two 1-AA
opponents.
