Heading into last weekend’s official visit to Virginia Tech, Atlantic Community (Delray Beach, FL) star cornerback Jayron Hosley was all but committed to the University of South Florida. Today’s 10 a.m. press conference yielded a surprise, however, as the 5-10, 172-pound cornerback announced that he was signing with the Hokies.
Atlantic Community head coach Andre Thaddies confirmed the decision with TSL this morning.
“It is confirmed. He is going to Virginia Tech,” said Thaddies, who added that Hosley and Hosley’s father had signed the letter of intent with Tech.
Hosley obviously had a great visit to Virginia Tech this past weekend, but a few Atlantic and Virginia Tech alums helped Tech’s cause as well.
“Brandon Flowers and David Clowney talked to him before the visit. Plus, he has always liked the ACC,” Thaddies said.
Rated a 4-star recruit by Rivals.com, Hosley racked up 37 tackles and picked off five passes as a senior. On offense, he had 15 receptions for 300 yards. He also had five receiving touchdowns and five special teams scores (three punt return, two kick-off return).
“He is a very exciting player on both sides of the ball,” Thaddies said in an interview last week. “That is the fun part about him. If he is returning a punt or kick return, people don’t leave their seats. It is the same on interceptions. It’s always a joy to see how well he covers guys, but once he gets an interception he does a lot of fancy stuff on the return.”
Hosley becomes the 20th high school senior to commit to Tech’s 2009 class. Stay tuned for more on his decision later today.
