One of Virginia Tech’s biggest targets of the 2009 class will be in Blacksburg this weekend. Brooke Point (Stafford, VA) defensive end Lanford Collins, a 6-4, 240-pound prospect who is #10 on TSL’s Postseason Top 40 list, will be on an official visit to Virginia Tech.
After receiving double-digit scholarship offers, Collins has reportedly narrowed his list of schools to three – Penn State, Virginia and Virginia Tech. He made official visits to Virginia and Penn State in December and also traveled to Boston College earlier in the fall, but the Eagles are no longer in contention.
As a senior, Collins racked up 54 tackles including 14 tackles-for-loss and nine sacks.
At this point, Collins appears to be the only big-time uncommitted official visitor this weekend. The 6-4, 225-pound prospect is deciding between Illinois and Virginia Tech, though he still claims to be committed to the Hokies. Edwards’ father, Bo Campbell, has indicated that this weekend’s visit will be extremely important in determining which school his son signs with next month.

His brother, 6-4, 220-pound wide receiver/tight end/linebacker Tyrell Edwards, plans to sign with Tech next month with the intention of enrolling in January of 2010. Tyrell will also be making his official visit this weekend.
Daniel (Central, S.C.) cornerback Jerrodd Williams, who turned in an impressive senior season performance, and Seventy-First (Fayetteville, N.C.) cornerback James Hopper headline the list of other commits expected to be in Blacksburg this weekend.
For next weekend, the Hokies are hoping that top cornerback recruit Jayron Hosley holds off on a decision. Hosley, a 5-11, 170-pound star out of Atlantic (Delray Beach, FL), reportedly...
