Less than a month remains until 2009 Signing Day and Virginia Tech currently boasts 18 verbal commitments in the 2009 football recruiting class. Targets remain on the board and the situations with commitments/2008 signees remain unsettled, so there certainly is more action to come before the first Wednesday in February arrives.

Recruiting calendar

Signing Day – February 4th. The Signing Period lasts from February 4th until April 1st.

Division 1 football recruiting is currently in a Contact Period, which began November 30th and lasts through January 31st.

In-home visits are allowed during the Contact Period. According to the NCAA, “Six in-person off-campus contacts per prospective student-athlete shall be permitted during this time period with not more than one permitted in any one calendar week (Sunday through Saturday) or partial calendar week.”

The rest of the calendar goes as follows:

Quiet Period: January 11th, January 16-17, February 1st
Dead Period: January 12-15, February 2-5
(Note: January 12-15 is a Dead Period, however, according to the NCAA, “Institutional staff members may have contact with a prospective student-athlete who has been admitted for mid-year enrollment, provided the prospect has signed a National Letter of Intent or other offer of admission and/or financial aid to attend the institution and is required to be on campus to attend institutional orientation sessions for all students.”)
