6-5, 235-pound Brookville (Lynchburg, VA) defensive end/tight end Zack McCray , one of the top juniors in the state of Virginia, claims to have been offered by Boston College, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia. Not all of these offers are official offers, but the ones that aren’t are expected to become official soon.

“I have official offers and I talked to some of the other schools I had gotten offers from. They said the offer is there but they haven’t sent it because of the season or whatever,” McCray said. “I talked to Al Groh and he realized he hadn’t gotten the scholarship out yet. He said he would be mailing it off. Maryland told me they are sending it in the mail.”

McCray has taken unofficial visits to North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. He returned to Knoxville for another visit last weekend to see the Volunteers take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Tomorrow, he heads to Charlottesville for the Miami/Virginia game and next Thursday he will be in Blacksburg to watch Virginia Tech host Maryland.

“The Tennessee game was pretty competitive,” recalled McCray, who attended Tennessee’s Spring Game earlier this year. “I liked the overall feel. It was fun because of the rivalry.”

McCray has been to home games at both Virginia Tech and Virginia. Comparing both experiences, McCray said, “I love it. At Tech all you hear is Virginia Tech and the fans are incredibly into it. Virginia is good, too. They were not as rowdy as Tennessee or Virginia Tech, but they are good.”

McCray remains quiet in terms of naming favorites and for right now plans to take his time in this recruiting process. He has turned in an excellent junior season so far, racking up close to 70 tackles including 18 sacks in helping Brookville to an undefeated regular season at 10-0.

“I think our group this year really focused,” McCray said. “We have a drive within ourselves to push hard and the work ethic was all there this year.
