2008 Hokie Football Season Preview: Running Backs

The Virginia Tech backfield will look different without Branden Ore. Ore was
a little less than 1,000 yards away from breaking the school all-time career
rushing record, but a number of problems forced Frank Beamer to part ways with
the talented runner. The Hokies must replace starting fullback Carlton
Weatherford as well. A number of candidates are lining up, particularly for the
open tailback competition.

Here is what the current depth chart probably looks like. If the ECU game was
played tomorrow, Jahre Cheeseman and Kenny Lewis would get most of the reps.

However, there is still plenty of time for that depth chart to change. The
Hokies haven’t even practiced in full pads yet. We’ll know more about these
guys, as well as all the other positions, after the first scrimmage on August 12th.
