2008 Hokie Football Season Preview: Offensive Line

Virginia Tech lost just one player off last year’s offensive line, but he was
a big one. Duane Brown was a First Round draft pick of the Houston Texans at
left tackle. Despite his loss, the Hokies showed improvement up front during
spring practice, and could possibly have the best interior offensive line in the
ACC. The starters are set, but the depth chart still needs to shake itself out.

Here is a look at what the depth chart could look like heading into the start
of practice, which begins on Monday, August 4. This depth chart is not official,
it’s merely our best guess.

The Hokies have a trio of proven players in the middle of the offensive line.
The tackles are inexperienced, but they held up fairly well during spring
practice. Tech has a co-starter at center in Ryan Shuman, and Richard Graham has
starting experience as well. The real battles during August will come at the
backup guard spots. Will Hivera Green and Jaymes Brooks remain in the 2-deep, or
will William Alvarez and Brandon Holland knock them out?
