Collins Hill (Suwanee, GA) quarterback Michael Box received some big news earlier this month, when he picked up an official scholarship offer from the University of Connecticut. The 6-4, 195-pound rising senior, who attended camps this summer at Connecticut, N.C. State, South Carolina, South Florida and Virginia Tech, discussed the Huskies offer as well as his standing with several other programs including Virginia Tech.

Box is relieved to have that first major Division 1 offer is in the bag, but he is also excited after enjoying the camp experience in Storrs.

“I really like it there. They made me feel very welcome. It is a great atmosphere and a great place to be. I enjoyed what all they had to offer. The facilities are very nice and I got along with the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach,” Box said.

“To have that big first one is nice. I can concentrate on football without worrying about that other stuff.”

While he is excited about the offer, Box does not seem to be in any rush to end his recruitment.

“Honestly, I’m just playing it a little bit by ear,” Box replied when asked if he could make a commitment soon. “Football season is the main thing on my mind. As far as recruiting goes, if I do a good job on the field then more good things will come.”

Box is hoping to receive an official offer from South Carolina, which has expressed very heavy interest throughout the summer. The Peach State standout performed very well at South Carolina’s camp, impressing head coach Steve Spurrier.

“The latest I’ve heard from them was when I went to the South Carolina showcase,” Box said of his standing with South Carolina. “I’m still supposedly their number one quarterback, but they are not going to offer anyone else until after the first game.”

There is no secret that Box would like to receive an offer from Virginia Tech.
