Top WR Enjoys VT Visit

One of the top wide receiver recruits in the 2009 class was in Blacksburg on Saturday, not to participate in the camp but to get a feel for Virginia Tech, which is one of the programs he is still considering. Ashbrook (Gastonia, N.C.) star Jheranie Boyd came away with a positive feeling from Saturday’s visit, in particular about Virginia Tech’s coaches and campus.

“It is away from everything, so I wouldn’t get distracted,” Boyd said, referring to Virginia Tech’s campus. The one day experience was his first ever visit to Virginia Tech. “I could go there and be real focused on my grades and everything. I also liked how the buildings on campus were all built with stone and brick.”

With respect to Virginia Tech’s coaching staff, Boyd said, “I felt good being around them. I had a good vibe. I felt comfortable around them. They are coaches I could see myself around for three, four or five years. Coach Sherman was good. I know he is somebody I could get along with.

“It seemed like they ran a good camp. I know the defensive backs were beating up on the wide receivers, so I wanted to get out there.”
