Columbia (S.C.) star safety/linebacker Damario Jeffery has a solid three favorite schools right now, but he admits that there are other schools he is “kind of looking at” as well. Virginia Tech is not one of the top three schools, but the 6-4, 213-pound prospect will give the one-time favorite Hokies another look this week.
“I’m going to Blacksburg on Friday,” said Jeffery, who visited Tech last summer as well. “I’m looking to get one-on-one time with the coaches. I want to get a good look at the depth chart. I might tour a couple of the facilities. Mainly, I want to find out more about the schemes.”
Jeffery’s top three schools are “South Carolina, Alabama and Auburn.” The fact that all three programs play in the same conference is no coincidence, as the South Carolina prep standout is very high on the idea of playing in the SEC. Certainly, it appears ACC power Virginia Tech has a mountain to climb to get seriously into this race.
“I really do want to play in the SEC, but Virginia Tech might be the school that’s the best fit for me,” Jeffery said.
Jeffery does not expect to make a college decision for a while, saying he would “probably” take official visits before making a decision.
“I’ve just been chilling right now,” Jeffery said. “I haven’t been thinking about the recruiting process.”
One of the top overall prospects in the state of South Carolina, Jeffery registered over 100 tackles and had four interceptions last season as a junior. A terrific athlete, he has consistently run the 40 in around 4.5 seconds.
Stay tuned, as we’ll follow up with Damario over the weekend for more on his trip to Virginia Tech.
