Former Oviedo (FL) star defensive lineman Dwight Tucker certainly had a big off-season between his junior and senior seasons, adding about 30 pounds to his 6-3 frame. Tucker’s preparation for Virginia Tech has been just as intense, though in a different way.

“I’m just working on staying in shape,” Tucker said. “I come up on June 28th, so it won’t be too long before I’m up there. I’m still about 6-3 1/2, 280 to 285 pounds. I’ve been lifting weights, but not as much as I’ve focused on being in shape. Being in shape is the most important thing for me heading in there.”

Tucker, who says “I’m ready to get up there and start my college career,” isn’t sure which position – defensive end or defensive tackle – the staff plans to start him out at. A versatile performer, he could potentially alternate between end and tackle, but his initial position will likely be determined this summer.

“[The Virginia Tech coaches] are trying to wait and see what is best for me when I get there,” said Tucker, who earned a spot in the Central Florida All-Star game for his senior season performance along the defensive line. As a junior, he tallied 51 tackles including 31 solos from the middle linebacker spot.
