Recruiting Update: Prospects That are Heading Elsewhere

As a result of their recent recruiting camp in
Blacksburg, Virginia Tech now has five verbal commitments for the 2009
recruiting class, as well as one verbal for the 2010 class. The Hokies don’t
have a lot of open spots this year, and the target board is so small that you’re
probably able to memorize it, if you’re the type that follows recruiting
closely. Today’s article is about a group of guys you won’t have to remember, because they aren’t signing with Virginia Tech.

Here is a look at the Tech targets that have
committed elsewhere, according to the TSL database.

Of all of the positions, quarterback is probably the most concerning at this
point. The Hokies offered four quarterbacks, according to the TSL database. They
were all from the state of Virginia, they were all offered early, and Tech
didn’t get any of them.

Kevin Newsome is the #1 player in the state, and
he’s heading to Michigan. Tajh Boyd is going to West Virginia, Bryn Renner will
call Chapel Hill home, and Quintin Hunter will play at UVA.
