2008 Spring Football Preview: Defensive Line

Ever since Virginia Tech joined the ACC, they’ve been blessed with talent and
depth on the defensive line. This year there is still individual talent, but
there is a lack of proven depth, particularly at defensive tackle. Developing
some effective interior defensive linemen should be the top priority of the
defensive staff during spring practice.

The Hokies lost defensive end Chris Ellis, as well as senior defensive
tackles Barry Booker, Carlton Powell and Kory Robertson. That’s a lot of talent
to replace in one year. It’s similar to the losses suffered by the defensive
line following the 2001 season, and we all saw what happened to that unit in
2002.
