Top DE Recruit Having Big Senior Season

6-2, 245-pound defensive end Everett Dawkins has turned in an excellent senior season so far, having racked up 74 tackles including 17 tackles-for-loss and five sacks in helping Bynes (Duncan, S.C.) to an 8-0 record. Besides those impressive stats, Dawkins also has 23 “big plays” and 62 “execution points” for head coach Chris Miller.

Miller constitutes a “big play” as a play that changes the momentum of the game. An execution point is awarded for executing an assignment correctly even if that player doesn’t make the play. Dawkins leads the team in the latter category.

“He is a very big part of the team,” Miller said of Dawkins, who sees time at defensive end and defensive tackle. “He is a big part of our defense. Our defense has played very well. It has played well in big games.”

Dawkins has certainly filled up the stat sheet – he also has 28 quarterback hurries and four fumble recoveries – but the leadership department may be where he has made the most impact.
