Yesterday, the news came out that J.T. Thompson was successful in his bid to
arrive at Virginia Tech one year earlier than previously planned, in 2007.
There’s more good news: 2007 recruit Dorenzo Hudson qualified and will also
enroll this fall. The two players, who are cousins, spoke with TSL recruiting
analyst Chris Horne about their efforts to get ready, and their thoughts on
their upcoming Tech careers.
Both players will enroll on August 20th, and they will room together at
Virginia Tech. The news that they’ll be coming this fall is the culmination of
hard work in the classroom for both.
"I was just waiting on grades to make sure I was set to go," said
Hudson, a 6-4, 185-pound shooting guard. "I found out about two weeks
Thompson (6-6, 215-pound small forward) needed to nail down one more core
course in order to be eligible for 2007-08. "I knew I could do it,"
Thompson said. "I knew it would take hard work, but I knew I could do it. I
had to go to summer school and take senior English. It was tough, but I hung in
there and made it happen."
As roommates and cousins, the two players will be able to support each other
once they arrive at Tech.
"I’m very excited. It’s going to be real good for us," Hudson said
of enrolling in the same class as his cousin J.T. "We’ll have a feel for
each other’s game. We can pick each other up if something isn’t going right.
It’s going to be very good for both of us."
Thompson agreed. "I’m excited because me and Dorenzo are getting there
at the same time. It’ll be easier to adjust when we’re up there together."
