Kathleen Senior High School (Lakeland, FL) star wide receiver/defensive back T.J. Lawrence has five favorite schools, but he plans on taking his time before coming to a final decision. Lawrence certainly has many options to consider, as he is now up to 17 Division 1A scholarship offers.
“I’m going to take my five officials,” Lawrence said. “I’m set on taking all of my officials.”
Three ACC schools are included in Lawrence’s current top five.
“Miami, Virginia Tech, Boise State, Boston College and Iowa are in my top five,” Lawrence said.
Of the offer from in-state power Miami, Lawrence said, “I was shocked to be honest with you. I just didn’t expect it.”
Kathleen Senior alum Torrian Gray, who of course is Virginia Tech’s defensive backs coach, serves as Lawrence’s primary recruiter. He spoke with the talented athlete over the phone last month.
“I talked to Gray,” Lawrence said. “He was a graduate here, so we have connected real well. We see eye to eye on a lot of things. He is cool to be around.”
Lawrence is not sure if he will make any unofficial visits this summer. He recently traveled to Troy for a camp along with some of his teammates and performed well. He does plan to workout with his teammates this summer to prepare for his senior season.
In his junior season, he made 70 catches for 1,245 yards and 13 touchdowns. On defense, he racked up five interceptions from the safety position.
