Desmond Roberts , still a serious target for the Virginia Tech Hokies, will make an official visit to Blacksburg this weekend. The three-star offensive line prospect out of Northampton (Gaston, N.C.) plans to arrive tomorrow, making what will be his first visit to Virginia Tech since the spring game last year.
“I believe I am still going [to Virginia Tech] this weekend,” Roberts said. “Tech is the only visit I have left right now.”
The 6-5, 265-pound Roberts made a verbal commitment to N.C. State last summer. Following the dismissal of Chuck Amato and the hiring of Tom O’Brien, the talented Shrine Bowl selection remained a soft commitment to N.C. State but decided to look at other options as well.
This month, Roberts has already made official visits to N.C. State and, most recently, Penn State.
“It was real nice,” Roberts said of the visit to Penn State. “My parents and I got to meet Joe Paterno. I also got to sit down with some of their famous former players – Larry Johnson and Tamba Hali [of the Kansas City Chiefs]. They let me know how things were.”
Despite a good trip, Penn State remains “a little behind N.C. State” according to Roberts. At this point, it appears he’ll likely sign with N.C. State unless something changes his mind.
“I’m set on N.C. State, but if something else feels perfect then I could change,” Roberts said.
Tech, which has already assembled an impressive group of offensive line commitments in this class, still wants to be that “something else.” We’ll find out after this weekend if that is the case.
