Following last weekend’s official visit to N.C. State, Wolfpack offensive line recruit Desmond Roberts had a decision to make – would he make the rest of his official visits or would he solidify his commitment? He has come to a decision.
“I’m going to make my visits,” Roberts said. “I’m going to Penn State this Friday, Virginia Tech the following week and UNC on February 2nd.
“It was nothing against N.C. State. It doesn’t hurt anything to take these other visits. If a college wants you bad enough, they will let you make the best decision you can. I’m going to take the visits just in case something else out there is better for me. Sometimes, you need to look up under rocks to find what you are looking for.”
The 6-5, 265-pound Northampton (Gaston, N.C.) star still considers himself committed to N.C. State. New N.C. State head coach Tom O’Brien has indicated to Roberts that he understands the need to make more visits.
Another head coach, Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer, visited Northampton yesterday to meet with Roberts and his mother.
“Coach Wiles and Coach Beamer stopped by,” Roberts recalled. “It was nice to see both of them down here and for them to talk with my mom a little more. It was a good thing for her to meet them because she hasn’t really talked to them before. Coach Beamer was telling me he wanted to see me in orange and maroon.”
Roberts is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com and Scout.com. He earned a spot in the NC/SC Shrine Bowl as well. Roberts played center in high school, but could play other offensive line positions on the next level.
