Phoebus (Hampton, VA) offensive/defensive lineman Maurice Hampton will begin his official visits this upcoming weekend as he heads to College Park to check out the University of Maryland. He has another official visit scheduled as well and is seemingly down to just two schools.
“I have a visit coming up this weekend,” Hampton confirmed. “I’m supposed to be going to Maryland. I’m just going to chill with the coaches and players. My mom is going up there with me. I’m going to Virginia Tech the first weekend of next month. I’m pretty sure that’s when they scheduled it for. I’ll do the same thing there. Michigan State is trying to get me there for a visit, but I don’t know about that one.
“I’m ready to get my official visits over with so I can choose a school. Then, I’m trying to deal with schools to get everything in order there. I want to get as many distractions out of the way as possible.”
Hampton says “I don’t have a favorite,” but he does have a top two of Maryland and Virginia Tech.
“Everybody tells me about both of these campuses. They tell me how they look and how nice they are,” Hampton said. “Maryland is a good program as far as football goes. Of course, Virginia Tech is Virginia Tech. Who doesn’t want to go up there? It’ll be nice to see the campus.”
Virginia Tech has had a lot of success at Phoebus. Does this affect Hampton’s decision?
“I would say no,” Hampton replied. “Those guys don’t have any bearing on me and my decision.”
Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer has not yet set an in-home visit with Hampton, though the Phoebus standout says the Hokies may be in-home the week before his official visit. In addition to focusing on recruiting, Hampton is currently on the varsity wrestling team.
