A Look at the Numbers: Virginia Tech’s Offense

Virginia Tech’s offense has been the hot topic of discussion since the
Chick-fil-A Bowl meltdown on December 30. An offensive line that couldn’t
block Georgia’s front seven, and a quarterback that turned the ball over four
times in the fourth quarter were the main culprits in Atlanta, but those aren’t
the only games the Tech offense has lost in the past few years.

Virginia Tech is 31-8 from 2004 through 2006. That’s very good. There is no
way around that fact. The Hokies have won at least 10 games in all three seasons
and are arguably the best program in the ACC.

But they could be better. In six of the eight losses over the last three
seasons, it has been the offense that has lagged behind the defense, and that
has generally gotten the finger pointed in their direction as the reason for
each loss.
