Virginia Tech Eyeing Connolly

Virginia Tech already has one commitment from Cardinal Mooney High School (Sarasota, FL) in linebacker Hunter Ovens. The staff is working on getting another in 6-2, 241-pound defensive end Michael Connolly . Connolly does not yet hold an offer from the Hokies for next year, but he has been offered an opportunity.

“I’ve been talking with Coach Wiles,” Connolly said. “They’ve been in close contact with our school because Hunter Ovens is going there. About three weeks ago, Coach Wiles came down. Me, him and Hunter had dinner. He came back to my house and talked to my parents and I. He talked about the school and the tradition and how it’s a winning program. They were talking to me before that, but that was my first face-to-face visit from them. I made an unofficial trip there during the summer and met Coach Beamer and the defensive coordinator. I saw Cornell Brown. The meeting with Coach Wiles was the first serious meeting with me.

“Virginia Tech is offering me as a recruited walk-on with an offer coming my second year.”

Connolly has official offers from Ball State, Colorado, Kansas and Minnesota. He has set one official visit – to Kansas the first weekend in January. The Jayhawks are very much in contention.
