For Phoebus (Hampton, VA) OL/DL Maurice Hampton , it’s now time to focus on recruiting. Hampton and his teammates took care of business this past weekend, capturing a Division 5 state championship with a win over Edison, so the talented 6-3, 275-pound recruit will obviously have a good feeling heading into his decision making process.
“It still hasn’t hit me,” Hampton said of winning the state championship. “I don’t even know how to feel right now. I’m still thinking there will be another day practice. That’s what I keep expecting.”
Hampton is looking to set official visits to at least three schools. He has set one of those officials.
“I think the Virginia Tech visit is set for early February,” Hampton said. “I think that’s when they said they wanted me to come. I also want to visit Maryland and I want to go to Michigan State.”
Maryland and Virginia Tech continue to be the top two schools in this race, but Michigan State will get a chance.
“They do want me to come up there and see what things are like. I’m guessing that means they’ll offer,” Hampton said. He has official offers from Maryland and Virginia Tech. “I’ll check it out and see what they are about.”
Has either Maryland or Virginia Tech jumped ahead of the other?
“No. Everything is still the same. It’s even,” Hampton said. “I’m waiting on these visits and relying on those to determine the ups and downs of each school.”
Hampton does plan to take a break from things this December before making official visits in January.
