In an interview last night, Myrtle Beach (S.C.) star linebacker Bruce Taylor indicated that he would make a decision within the next two or three weeks. Well, decision time has come sooner than expected and the 6-3, 240-pound Taylor will announce his verbal commitment this week.
“We’re having a press conference here on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.,” Myrtle Beach Head Coach Scott Earley said. “He’ll announce his commitment in our stadium, in front of his family and friends.”
Taylor named Virginia Tech as his leader last night, so the Tech coaches have to feel good about their chances. Florida State and UNC are the other two finalists.
“My sophomore year, Virginia Tech was the first to offer me (verbal offer) and that stood out,” Taylor said. “Also, there is a player on Virginia Tech who went to our school. His name is Brandon Frye. Virginia Tech has got a good percentage of graduates. They run the same defense we do. And, I just like the school.
“I also went up there for a scrimmage and it felt good just watching them scrimmage. It was nice. The crowd was nice.”
As a sophomore last season, Taylor racked up 215 total tackles including 42 tackles-for-loss. Assuming he commits to the Hokies, he will be an outstanding addition to the program and would be the second player to commit for the 2008 recruiting class.
