In Monday night’s 13-7 loss to Gar-Field, Varina quarterback/safety Davon Morgan suffered a leg injury. Yesterday, Varina assistant Blanda Wolfe reported that Davon had a broken ankle and would be out at least 4-6 weeks depending on if the injury required surgery or not. Today, there is further news on the 6-0, 188-pound Virginia Tech recruit.

“The bone that was broken was the fibula – the non-weight barring bone. There is no surgery required,” Wolfe said. “He will be in a cast for four weeks and out six to eight weeks.”

This seems to be decent news for Morgan, who could potentially return to the Blue Devil lineup before the end of his senior season. Varina has been snakebitten in terms of injuries the past two seasons, as last year star running back Brandon Minor missed much of the season with a hip injury.

Last season, Morgan was named the 2005 offensive player of the year in his district. He was named to the first-team all-metro defense by the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
