Varina (VA) defensive tackle Bud Tribbey , fresh off an unofficial visit to Syracuse this past weekend, hopes to make a decision very soon.
“It’ll probably be before this weekend,” Tribbey said.
The 6-1, 285-pound prospect is down to Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
“It’s a hard decision because both schools are in great areas and I really like both coaching staffs,” Tribbey said. “It’s hard to decide right now.”
Tribbey commented on his unofficial visit to Syracuse. He checked out Virginia Tech last month, when he went for the senior camp.
“I think Syracuse was great,” said Tribbey, who was accompanied by teammate Jamar Jackson. “I really liked it. Their coaches showed me around. I toured the campus. They took me inside the Carrier Dome.
“I really liked their coaches and the campus.”
Virginia Tech’s coaches have told Tribbey that he will be a likely grey-shirt candidate if he chose Tech. Is this a factor?
“I don’t really have a problem with that,” Tribbey said. “It doesn’t hurt them as much. [Former Varina and Virginia Tech standout] Kevin Lewis did it and he came out of Virginia Tech successful.”
Asked if he had a favorite right now, Tribbey answered “I really couldn’t say right now.”
Tribbey racked up 10 tackles-for-loss and four sacks last season as a junior. He is the strongest player on the team according to the Varina coaching staff.
