Richland Northeast (Columbia, S.C.) star WR/S Mark Barnes certainly wants to begin the process of narrowing his list of schools, but making unofficial visits has come to be more difficult than expecteds. Barnes remains hopeful of making at least a few trips before the beginning of his senior season.

“It’s been all football stuff,” Barnes said of what he’s been up to this summer. “I’ve been working out every day, just working on techniques and getting my team together and stuff like that. I’ve been trying to get some visits down so I can actually visit some schools. I haven’t had the chance to do that yet.”

Still at 6-3, Barnes says he is now up to 195 pounds and feels faster and quicker heading into his senior season. He feels he has a lot to prove this upcoming season.

“I feel I’m ready to gain a lot of respect from a lot of people,” Barnes said. “I have some respect, but I don’t feel I have the full respect. I’m looking to earn that. I think I’m getting faster and quicker. I’ve also learned new moves this off-season and I think those will help me out this year.”

In an April update on TSL, Barnes stated he was wide open in terms of favorite schools. Nothing has changed much since he has not been able to make many visits.

He claims he will make all five official visits before making a commitment. “The coaches can tell me things, but I have to experience it for myself first before I actually give a top five or top three.”

Barnes listed the schools he would like to visit before his senior year begins.

“I’ll most likely be visiting some teams before the season starts,” Barnes said. “August 4th I think I’ll be visiting Florida (no offer), Florida State and Miami (no offer). I think I’ll probably visit Georgia Tech on my way back. Also I think I’ll be visiting Virginia Tech and LSU.”

Auburn, Clemson, Louisville, South Carolina and Southern Cal are among the other programs that have offered at this point. Of those programs,
