6-5 ½, 267-pound offensive tackle recruit Kyle Nunn picked up an offer from Virginia Tech last Sunday, just a day after his top performance at Tech’s senior camp. The Sumter (S.C.) standout is now up to two official scholarship offers (with N.C. State being the other) and hopes to add more in the coming days.
Nunn is awaiting word from the University of South Carolina as to whether or not he has an offer. He expects to hear something today. He heard this week from the University of Georgia staff, who informed him that they would not be offering at this time. Tomorrow, he heads to UNC’s summer camp and plans to participate.
Asked about the Tech offer, Nunn replied “I was excited about the offer from Virginia Tech. I’m still very interested in both schools that have offered me. No favorites, just looking things over with my family and stuff like that.”
Nunn, who says he was planning to go to N.C. State this weekend after his UNC visit, hopes to make a commitment by the first part of August.
“We’ll just know when it happens, I guess,” Nunn said of his decision. He’s not sure if he will go to Raleigh this weekend or not. “It’s definitely going to be before school starts. It’s going to be before August 9th.”
What factors are important to Nunn?
“Playing time is a big thing to me,” Nunn said. “I’d like to play early in my career. I wouldn’t mind red-shirting. I’d like a year to get stronger and get used to going up against the big boys. Education is another important thing, too. They have to have a good tutoring system.”
The Sumter star talked about possible early playing time at Virginia Tech.
“Coach Newsome said that wherever I go a guy like me should be playing early,” Nunn said. “He said a guy like me should be playing and not sitting on the bench.”
Stay tuned, as we will follow up with Nunn in the coming weeks to find out more about potential offers and a potential decision.
According to sources, Nunn performed extremely well at Tech’s camp. What area, if any, did Nunn feel he performed exceptionally well in?
“In pass protection I pancaked a couple guys and that helped me out,” Nunn said. “In fact, one guy went against me a couple times to see if he could get me and I put him on the ground a couple times.”
