According to Hylton head coach Lou Sorrentino, offensive line prospect Will Alvarez has been in the process of narrowing down his list of schools in recent weeks. Will’s latest experience to help with this process was a trip to Virginia Tech last Saturday for its Senior Camp.

“Prior to going down to Tech, we were probably in the process of narrowing down maybe a top five a six,” Sorrentino said. “The schools that were kind of in that running were Miami – that is going to the one that’s tough for him to visit, at least this summer, but he liked the coaches that were recruiting him – and, of the schools he had been to, there was Penn State and North Carolina because he liked what he saw from those visits, Maryland from early on and Virginia Tech was the one he hadn’t seen that was a local one.

“As far as his criteria goes, I think he had ruled out most of the SEC. He felt like if he went somewhere in the ACC that his family would be able to see him play. Miami was the distant one, but he liked them and they were in the ACC so that separated them maybe from some of the SEC schools.

“We haven’t announced a top five, but that’s where we were going with him. I would say he and I were unofficially in the process of doing that. I think we’ve got more of a narrow focus right now.”

Alvarez greatly enjoyed the Virginia Tech experience and appears headed back for a follow up trip this weekend.

“I know Will really liked and I think he and his parents are trying to set up a visit for this weekend,” Sorrentino said. “I know there were a lot of rumors about him committing and that wasn’t the case, but I think he liked it enough to get his folks down. It was a good enough visit for him to want to get his parents down there and see it and see if they want to take the next step or not.

“Our thing was to go to Virginia Tech if he wanted to see that and perhaps narrow down the process by the end of the summer. He was excited this week and he liked Virginia Tech, but then again he was excited about UNC and Penn State. I told him to go back and talk to his folks. He did, and then they decided to come up and take another visit this week. I haven’t talked to them about if they would look at an early commitment if things go well.”

UVa is one local school not mentioned in a potential top five, and it doesn’t look like the ‘Hoos will be in contention.
