Thomas Jefferson (Jefferson Hills, PA) tight end/defensive end Chris Drager was aiming for an August decision. But, after participating in Virginia Tech’s camp on Saturday, he decided now was the time for a decision. And, last night, the 6-4, 235-pound standout became the seventh player to commit to the Hokies for the 2007 recruiting class.
“ Chris Drager committed to Virginia Tech last evening,” Thomas Jefferson head coach Bill Cherpak said. “He visited there again over the weekend and decided when he got back. We talked last evening and he called Coach Beamer and Coach Stinespring to inform them. I talked with Coach Stinespring and they had just gotten off the field from their camp and Chris called them.
“We are very excited for Chris and can’t wait to come down for a game.”
Drager plays on both sides of the ball for Thomas Jefferson. At tight end, Drager caught 17 passes for 264 yards and one touchdown last season as a junior. On the defensive side of the ball, he had 53 tackles and nine sacks from the defensive end position.
Drager chose Virginia Tech over offers from Maryland, Pitt, Stanford and West Virginia, among others. He is being recruited to play tight end by the Virginia Tech staff, but he could also end up as a defensive end.
An outstanding student, Chris will have no problems qualifying.
