Clover Hill (Midlothian, VA) offensive line prospect Blake DeChristopher has been rising up the recruiting charts of late. The 6-5, 290-pound standout recently landed his first official scholarship offer – from Virginia Tech – and is drawing serious interest from schools in the ACC and Big Ten.

“His recruiting is starting to come on,” Clover Hill head coach Sean O’Hare said. “Maryland, Iowa, Duke and Wake Forest are all showing serious interest. Virginia Tech offered at their spring game.”

DeChristopher’s sophomore season was cut short due to a broken bone in his foot, but he rebounded with a very solid junior year in 2005. Factor his junior season production with his size and athleticism – we’ll get to his track accomplishments in a bit – and you have a player who is going to draw interest.

“He had a really good junior year for us,” O’Hare said of DeChristopher, who plays offensive tackle and defensive tackle for the Cavaliers. “I think he just learned how to finish. He plays through the play. He would not only get through his initial block, but he started to move to the second level and block a linebacker or a defensive back. And, he’s been getting bigger ever since the season ended. Right now, he’s 6-5 ½, 290 pounds, and he moves well.”

And, yes, DeChristopher is an accomplished track athlete who excels in the shot put. In indoor track and field this year, he captured the Dominion District championship with a personal best shot put throw of 56 feet, 6 inches – a meet record as well. He also captured the Central Region title and finished third overall in the state meet.

“Before Virginia Tech offered, coach Cavanaugh called back and said he was interested in Blake but wanted to make sure he had the necessary explosion,” O’Hare said. “Blake throws close to 57 feet in the shot put. That showed his explosion right there.”

So what does DeChristopher think of the Virginia Tech offer?

“Virginia Tech has always had a good football program,” DeChristopher said. “It’s a top program. I’m really excited about the offer. It is definitely one of my top schools.”

He is interested in other programs as well and doesn’t appear to be
