Oscar Smith (Chesapeake, VA) all-state defensive end Brian Whitmore has scheduled three official visits for the month of January. The 6-4, 245-pound 4-star recruit plans to make these visits and will probably then make a decision sometime around signing day.
“He’s going to UNC this Friday, South Carolina next weekend and Virginia Tech on the weekend of the 27th,” Oscar Smith Head Coach Richard Morgan said. “Hopefully he’ll make a decision after Virginia Tech. He’ll decide if he’s still going to Maryland or if he’ll go somewhere else.”
Whitmore made a verbal commitment to Maryland on his official visit there last month. He has since backed off of the commitment and will explore these other three programs.
“He’s taking these visits to decide if the better place is at Maryland or if there is another place that’s better for him,” Morgan said. “He just wants to look to make the right decision. He and his parents will make these trips and hopefully he’ll choose the school that’s best for him.”
An all-state performer at defensive end, Whitmore also excelled at offensive tackle for Oscar Smith. Morgan sees his star as a defensive player all the way on the next level.
“I think he’s strictly a defensive end or linebacker,” Morgan said. “He’s not going to play in the interior of the defensive line and he’s not going to play on the offensive line. He’s a defensive end or linebacker all the way.”
