Kam Chancellor thought about taking a week or two to make his collegiate decision, but the Maury (Norfolk, VA) standout recruit decided yesterday that it wasn’t necessary. Just three days after returning from an official visit to Virginia Tech, the 6-4, 215-pound QB/Ath verbally committed to the Hokies.
“I started stressing about my decision, but I knew I wanted to go there,” Chancellor said. “So I went ahead and made my decision.”
Chancellor, who is being recruited as a quarterback, appreciates the scholarship offer for himself as well as for his community.
“It has sunk in already,” Chancellor said of becoming a member of Virginia Tech’s 2006 recruiting class. “I’m getting hyped already. It makes me feel real good. Plus, a lot of people look up to me around here and now they have something to look up to.”
Virginia Tech’s coaches of course did their evaluation of Chancellor, but they also asked other high school coaches in the area about him as well.
“The [Virginia Tech] coaches said they liked me as a person and as a player,” Chancellor said. “They also said they heard from other high school about me. The coaches they talked to all said good things about me and that helped me get an offer.”
Chancellor looks forward to preparing for Virginia Tech. He will sign in February and enroll in the summer of 2006.
“I’m going to work on getting stronger,” Chancellor said. “I want to get my base stronger so I can break tackles in the pocket. I’m going to try and get a little bit faster, too.”
