4-star wide receiver Damon McDaniel , who is having a terrific senior season for Landstown (Virginia Beach, VA), is yet another star player who will be making an official visit to Tech this weekend. Virginia Tech has always been mentioned by McDaniel as a school under consideration, but what was it that finally earned the Hokies an official visit?

“Basically, the way [Marcus] Vick has been throwing the ball,” McDaniel said. “I mean, Vick is doing real good this year. The whole squad is doing good this year. They seem like a real tight squad. Everybody gets along and they play together and that’s I look for.”

McDaniel discussed his thoughts heading into this weekend.

“I’m just trying to get on the campus, see what the campus is like and see what the atmosphere is like and the environment,” McDaniel said. “It’s going to be a real good game, so I want to see what the atmosphere is like. I want to get around the coaches and see how they game plan and stuff like that.”

McDaniel has taken one official visit already. In September, he and teammate Percy Harvin headed to the University of Florida. The visit still stands out to McDaniel.

“The visit was real good,” McDaniel said. “It was real hospitable and there were real nice people. The coaches were down to earth and talked about regular things. They didn’t really hassle you about the football stuff. Basically, they made [me and Percy] feel like they wanted us more than all the other recruits because they separated us from the other recruits and stuff. It’s real loud in the stadium. The campus is big, but it’s real calm there.”

Besides Florida and Virginia Tech, LSU and Miami are the other schools at the top of the list.

“I’m pretty sure I’m going to set a trip to LSU on the weekend of [November] 24th and 25th,” McDaniel said. “And I’ll try to get down to Miami sometime soon after that.”

Landstown head coach Chris Beatty said in an earlier interview that Damon’s recruitment would come down to official visits.

“I’d agree with that,” said McDaniel, who does not expect to make a decision any time soon.

The Season…

Landstown is undefeated at 8-0, thanks in large part of course to the play of Harvin and McDaniel. McDaniel talked about his senior season, which is even better than his outstanding junior year.

“Basically, I’m just having a sense of urgency in trying to get to the endzone a lot more,”
