Heading into this season, probably the most notable running backs on Hargrave Military Academy’s post-grad squad were Alabama commitment Mike Ford and Maryland commitment Morgan Green. Now, look out for Keiland Williams.

Williams, who was classified as a senior athletically but as a junior academically last year at Northside High School (Lafayette, LA), transferred to Hargrave to take the remaining classes needed to graduate and to have the opportunity to continue playing football. He has shown off his power and 4.4 speed for head coach Robert Prunty’s squad.

“He’s a typical Hargrave back,” Prunty said of Williams. “Like Danny Ware, Andre Brown, Darrell Blackman, he will be able to go into college and play right away. He’s a 5-11, 224-pound back who is fast. Who wouldn’t be interested in that?”

Williams rushed for 2,554 yards and 18 touchdowns for Northside last season. He was named the Louisiana Class 4A most outstanding player on offense. This spring, he displayed his athleticism as the Nike Camp at Oxford (MS). There, Williams sprinted a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash, ran a 4.33 shuttle and showed a 33-inch vertical leap.

Williams’ physical capabilities along with his production this season and last have earned him a handful of top Division 1A scholarship offers.

“He has four to five offers,” Prunty said. “Virginia Tech hasn’t offered, but they’re very interested. He’s got offers from UNC, LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss. A lot of teams are very interested.”

In terms of possible favorites in this recruiting race, Coach Prunty says “Keiland hasn’t really told me, yet.” As for Virginia Tech, the coaches have shown heavy interest in Williams but have not yet offered.

“Coach Hite says Keiland reminds him of Lee Suggs and Kevin Jones,” Prunty said.

Stay tuned for a follow up with Coach Prunty next week. Prunty takes his 7-1 team to Blacksburg on Friday to face Virginia Tech’s JV squad.
