6-1, 180-pound Westlake (Atlanta, GA) defensive back has seen the interest in him pick up over the past month, with Maryland and Purdue showing heavy interest. Edwards, who has received scholarship offers from Baylor, Mississippi State, Tulane and Virginia Tech, names the two schools currently at the top of his list. Have the latest schools changed his favorites?
Previously, Virginia Tech and Mississippi State were the leaders. Nothing has changed at this point.
“I might take an official visit to [Mississippi State] in about two or three weeks,” Edwards said. “Or I may go to Virginia Tech that weekend. I haven’t decided yet. Basically, them and Virginia Tech have the lead right now. Virginia Tech has the lead over Mississippi State.”
Edwards gave the latest news in his recruitment.
“I got a verbal offer from Purdue,” Edwards said. “I’m talking to Maryland. I haven’t set any visits, yet. I was supposed to take an official visit to Virginia Tech last weekend, but I called too late and they didn’t have any hotels available. I hope to get down there pretty soon.”
Virginia Tech continues to heavily recruit the talented defensive back. In fact, recruiting coach Lorenzo Ward, who is responsible for many if not all state of Georgia recruits, calls Edwards every Tuesday.
“We mainly just talk about the previous games and stuff like that,” Edwards said. “He calls every week. And as a matter of fact, I think Coach Ward is going to be at our game next week.”
Asked what Ward likes the most about him, Edwards replied “Basically, he said they like that I could play every position in the defensive backfield. They like my versatility.”
Edwards also gave the scoop on Westlake’s 2005 season.
“We’re 5-2,” Edwards said. “I average about eight or nine tackles per game. I have two interceptions, three sacks and two forced fumbles.”
