Meadowbrook (Richmond, VA) 4-star recruit John Graves made an unofficial visit to Virginia Tech this past weekend for the Georgia Tech game. The 6-3, 240-pound star discusses his experience in Blacksburg and also gives the latest on his decision-making process.
“It was pretty good,” said Graves. “The crowd was great…they were fantastic. I went to a game two years ago against Syracuse. The crowd was great [this weekend] and the team played really good.”
Not much has changed in Graves’ decision-making process. He was contemplating a decision before the start of his senior season, which is now three games in. He doesn’t know at this point when a decision could come. Virginia, Virginia Tech and Georgia are the schools Graves has mentioned he wants to officially visit.
“Everything’s still the same,” Graves said of his recruitment. “I’m still undecided. I still basically will make my decision whenever I feel like I’m ready.”
As for official visit possibilities, Graves said “I’ve been trying to get some things setup, but it’s not working out right now.” In terms of an unofficial to UVa, he said “I am planning to go up for some UVa games.”
Graves is being recruited as an outside linebacker/defensive end by UVa and as a defensive end by Virginia Tech. In addition to Georgia, Virginia and Virginia Tech, he boasts offers from Maryland, North Carolina and Ohio State as well.
The defending state champions are off to a 3-0 start this season. All three wins have been battles, especially the past two wins – a 24-21 come-from-behind victory over L.C. Bird and this past Friday’s 31-21 win at Manchester.
“Yeah, man, we’ve gone through some tough games,” Graves said. “They just keep coming. Last week’s win is behind us now, so we have to go back to work for next week. The win is over with and we still have a long way to go.”
