Dorian Porch is indeed a very talented football player, but he also excels in baseball – which may cost Virginia Tech one of its 2005 recruits. Porch, a 5-11, 180 pound DB/WR recruit out of Gordon Central High School in Calhoun, Georgia, may opt to play Major League Baseball if he’s selected high enough in the June 7th MLB Draft.
“Well, it’s either Virginia Tech or baseball,” Porch said. “Right now, the draft is June 7th so I’m not real sure of what’s going to happen.”
Porch continues to train towards playing college football, but he is also playing in several all-star baseball games as well. He enjoyed an excellent senior season in baseball, batting .447 with 8 home runs as the lead-off hitter. Porch plays centerfield.
“I’m definitely excited about going to college to play football,” Porch said. “Baseball is just one of those opportunities that came along and I’m going to make the best out of it.”
The Arizona Diamondbacks are one team that has been in touch with the speedy athlete.
“I talked to the Diamondbacks,” Porch said. “They had a tryout clinic the other day and they said I did pretty good.”
Just getting drafted likely won’t be enough for Porch to forgo his Virginia Tech scholarship. The round he is selected in is a major factor as well.
