2005 was already an excellent in-state haul for Coach Beamer and company, but their success didn’t stop after Signing Day. Today, the Hokies received a commitment from 4-star Hampton High School wide receiver Todd Nolen. Nolen is rated as the #6 overall prospect in the state by Techsideline.com.
“Yes,” Nolen replied when asked if he has committed to Virginia Tech. “I will sign later today.”
Nolen chose the Hokies over North Carolina, Penn State and Virginia. Comfort level appears to have been the main reason the Hokies came out on top.
“The people,” Nolen replied when asked why he chose Virginia Tech. “I felt comfortable there. I really liked the coaching staff. They made me feel like I was a part of a big family.”
While Nolen will sign a letter of intent with Virginia Tech, there is a possibility that he will have to attend prep school before heading to Blacksburg.
“I’ll approach that situation if it happens,” Nolen commented.
Nolen, who earned first-team all-state honors as well, made 53 receptions for 1,370 yards and 16 touchdowns this season. He gives Virginia Tech 5 of the top 7 players in the state and 6 of the top 10 as ranked by Techsideline.com. He will add more firepower to an already quality wide receivers group.
