Heading into the Holiday break, Lakewood (Sumter, SC) wide receiver/defensive back J.C. Neal had named N.C. State as the leader for his services. Several things have changed regarding his top schools list, however N.C. State being the leader is not one of them.
“It’s tight right now between N.C. State and Virginia Tech,” Neal said. “Then it’s USC (South Carolina).”
Neal has visits scheduled to South Carolina this weekend (starting tomorrow), N.C. State next weekend and Clemson on the 21st. He said he’s “not quite sure” if he will actually make the visit to Clemson, as me may have a decision before then.
One of the noticeable changes on his list is South Carolina being named as one of the top 3 schools. Neal, who had heavily favored leaving the state, likes what he is hearing from Spurrier and company.
“Coach Spurrier keeps telling me how much they are going to pass the ball,” Neal said. “I want to play receiver and I want to be able to see a lot of passes come my way.”
Though the offense is intriguing, South Carolina remains third behind N.C. State and Virginia Tech. It appears Virginia Tech is closer to N.C. State than in our previous update, however Neal is not sure what it would take for the Hokies to overcome the Wolfpack.
“I honestly don’t know,” Neal replied when asked what Tech would need to do to overcome N.C. State’s lead. “I couldn’t tell you.”
Coach Charley Wiles will be in-school with Neal tomorrow. Neal will leave for South Carolina after school ends.
