Recently, 6-5, 280-pound offensive line prospect Brian Roche decided to de-commit from Rutgers and open up his recruitment. The Don Bosco Prep (Wykoff, N.J.) star made an official visit to Michigan State last weekend, goes to Louisville this weekend and has a January 14th date set with N.C. State.
What other schools is he considering?
“I’ve got those 3 schools and I’ll probably take 2 other visits,” Roche said. “I’m thinking about Virginia Tech, Notre Dame and Connecticut right now.”
Roche has spoken with Tech assistant coach Kevin Rogers recently. It doesn’t appear that Tech will heavily recruit Roche until some other recruits make their decisions.
“I think they are feeling out my interest for them,” Roche said of Virginia Tech. “Coach Rogers also said that they are recruiting some other linemen and he doesn’t want to offend anybody. I got the impression that they are not going after me fully right now. If it’s because they are looking out for other players, then I can respect that. I’ll just see if they are going to recruit me and maybe look at another school if they don’t. Right now I have 3 schools for 2 spots, so we’ll see what happens.”
Roche discussed how his official visit to Michigan State went last weekend.
“It was pretty good,” Roche said. “I spent a lot of time with the players and found out what they are all about. It’s a Big 10 school. It’s a big school. It’s definitely a program that’s had a few off years recently, but they showed a lot of bright spots this year.”
Roche is being recruited as an offensive lineman. He has the potential to play either guard or tackle on the next level. When asked what he will improve this off-season, he said “I think I need to improve my strength. I think I’m pretty athletic right now but I could improve that, too. I’m really just going to work on everything.”
