Lakewood (Sumter, SC) wide receiver/defensive back prospect J.C. Neal visited Virginia Tech this past weekend – it was his first official visit, and it went very well.
“It was fun,” said Neal, who made the trip with his sister, his mother and his father. “The game was packed and it was loud. The fans really impressed me. Even when they were down, they were still cheering like they were up by 100 points. They stick with the team and I like that.”
Neal said he “felt pretty good” on his visit. How did he feel about the campus and the players?
“I liked the town…I liked Blacksburg,” Neal said. He was hosted by Cary Wade and David Clowney. “All of the people there were all about football. It was always football, football, football.
“The players were real cool. I like the players. They tell you how it really is. They told me how the coaches are, what the program is like and how the fans treat you. They were right.”
And how did he feel about Coach Beamer?
“He’s cool,” Neal said. “He’s legendary. He was talking to me about how bad they want me to come here. They have a chance to be real good. They have a lot of sophomores and freshmen. They just want me to come there.”
Neal did not make a commitment to the Hokies, who remain in his top 3 schools along with N.C. State and Maryland.
“I want to wait until I take all of [the official visits to his top 3 schools] before I make my decision,” Neal said. “I liked it though.”
Next weekend, Neal will make an official visit to the University of Maryland. He has N.C. State scheduled for January 7th.
