Cameron Sexton’s high school career recently came to an end when Scotland County (Laurinburg, NC) fell to Apex 13-12 in the first round of playoffs last Friday. With his senior season complete, what is next for the 6-2, 180-pound signal-caller?

“The next step is committing,” Sexton said. “And that’s going to happen in about 2 weeks. I’m going to look hard at the teams I’ve been focused in on. I’ll call some of those schools and tell them that it won’t happen. That’ll be tough but I have to do it. I’m going to be narrowing down my list and I’ll have a decision in 2 weeks.

“It’s still the same final 5 – Virginia Tech, N.C. State, Clemson, UNC and Florida State. I have not narrowed anything down yet.”

Sexton stated what stands out about each of the remaining 5 schools. He has taken official visits to Clemson and Florida State and has made unofficial trips to UNC, N.C. State and Virginia Tech. He visited Virginia Tech once, which was earlier this summer.

Virginia Tech

“The coaches. Through it all, I haven’t seen a better combination of 3 coaches than Virginia Tech has in Coach Beamer, Coach Cavanaugh and Coach Rogers. They’ve been so great. I never did take an official visit, but I made it up there for an unofficial visit this summer. It was good having the chance to see the facilities. I didn’t need an official visit because I already knew how interested they are in me. They’ve made that clear from the beginning.”

“I think the job security is secure for the coaches, which is a positive. I grew up a Carolina fan, so that’s another positive. The quarterback situation is good. They’re winning now, so that could be good.”

N.C. State

“N.C. State is kind of the same as UNC in that it’s a home-state school. It was nice to see how they produced Philip Rivers. I’ve been looking at the direction of the program closely. The facilities they built for the program was a big thing.”

“Clemson’s offense. We got our offense from theirs. The opportunity to meet Coach O’Cain and Coach Burton was enjoying in itself. Getting to know them has been great.”

Florida State

“FSU is FSU. It’s a big-time Florida school. Having the chance to meet Coach Bowden down on my official visit was real exciting. It’s a great opportunity.”
