Rocky Mount (NC) cornerback prospect Stephan Virgil recently received additional scholarship offers, from East Carolina and Wake Forest respectively. But it’s the 2 schools that had already offered the 5-11, 165-pound standout that are the current favorites.
“North Carolina and Virginia Tech are the 2 schools at the top,” Virgil said. “They are neck and neck. Virginia Tech is a good school. Their fans love to watch them play. They have a good environment. I like them from those standpoints.
“For UNC, I like the way they play against teams when they are the underdog. When they play against hard football teams they never give up. I was at the Miami at UNC game. They came out ready to play.”
Virgil will have a chance to see his top 2 in action this week, when Virginia Tech takes on UNC in Chapel Hill. So what will he be looking for in this game?
“I’m looking for a good game,” Virgil said. This will be his 3rd game at UNC. He has been to Virginia Tech for one game, which was during his official visit. “I’m going to really watch each team’s secondary to see how they play and what each team does.”
A decision between the 2 could happen soon.
“I really don’t know when I’m going to decide,” Virgil said. “It could be any time. I have no idea how I’d decide between them. That’s a hard one.”
Virgil is a major part of a tough Rocky Mount defense. This season, he estimates that he has around 65 tackles and 4 interceptions in 9 games. Rocky Mount is 9-0, including a key triple overtime victory over New Bern a few weeks ago.
