6-3, 230-pound middle linebacker recruit Darryl Gresham re-opened his recruiting process a few months after verbally committing to UVa earlier this year. UVa coaches made the trip to William Fleming last Friday – were they able to secure his commitment?
“He’s still looking at everything,” William Fleming Head Coach Keith Smith said. “In talking with his parents, I think he felt like he acted hastily in making a decision so early. He didn’t give himself a chance to take visits, so that’s what he’s going to do. UVa knows the situation. Coach Rocco and Coach Poindexter visited last Friday just to touch base with the kid. They’ve been great in his recruitment.”
The schools Gresham is eyeing besides UVa are Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and Virginia Tech. Florida State has not offered but continues to recruit.
With the recent news surrounding the University of Florida, have the Gators been eliminated?
“That news is so current that I’m not sure what’s going to happen,” Smith said. “Florida hasn’t told us anything yet.”
Although Gresham still considers himself a “soft commit,” he certainly appears to be very open regarding other schools. He’s expressed an interest in taking official visits to UVa, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia Tech, although nothing has been set.
When it’s all over, does Coach Smith have any indication as to where his star will end up?
“He’s going to look at everything, but I think there is a strong chance he ends up at Virginia,” Smith said.
Gresham is showing why he is one of the top players in the state this season. He leads his area in tackles and has helped William Fleming to a 5-2 record.
