South View (Hope Mills, NC) tight end prospect Jonathan Hannah has decided not to make an official visit to the University of Oklahoma next month. This move makes Oklahoma a definite long shot for one of the East Coast’s top tight end recruits.
“Me and my family made an unofficial visit to Oklahoma earlier this year for 3 days,” Hannah said. “I was set to take an official visit there next month, but my parents didn’t want to pay for another set of tickets. I don’t really like to fly alone, so I’m not going to go. I didn’t really want to go out there by myself.
“I won’t say that Oklahoma is eliminated now, but unless they do something drastic I’m probably not going to go there.”
Hannah, who has already made official visits to Clemson and Virginia Tech, plans to make 3 more officials before making his decision.
“I know 2 official visits I’m going to take,” Hannah said. “I’m going to Penn State and Florida State. They will be sometime in December. For my last official visit, I’m thinking about UNC, N.C. State or Tennessee.”
While Hannah wanted to stay even in terms of naming favorites while taking his official visits, it appears that one school may have the edge at this point.
“[Staying even until all of the official visits are taken] is still the plan, but at the same time I’m a lifelong Florida State fan and they are recruiting me pretty hard,” Hannah said. “I wouldn’t call them a favorite, but that is in my mind.”
And where does Virginia Tech stand?
“They’re still pretty high,” Hannah said of the Hokies. “I talk to them every week. Coach Beamer and Coach Wiles switch who calls me each week. I haven’t lost any interest in them.”
Hannah’s final schools appear to be Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, N.C. State, Penn State and Virginia Tech with Tennessee as a possibility as well. He had planned on making a decision in late November, but that will likely not happen.
The 6-4, 250-pound blue-chipper is having a solid senior season. He has helped South View to a 10-0 season. He has caught 15 passes for 240 yards and 2 touchdowns on the year.
Hannah has a host of unofficial visits lined up, including the Virginia Tech at UNC game, the Florida at Florida State game, the Florida State at N.C. State game and the Notre Dame at Tennessee game.
