Duquesne (PA) running back prospect Shane Brooks has consistently heard from Akron, Connecticut, Indiana, Maryland, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Wisconsin since September 1st. Brooks, who claims offers from all of these schools, still lists one at the top.
“Virginia is probably still my favorite followed by Wisconsin and the others I mentioned,” Brooks said. “That’s about it for right now. I think I’m going to take a visit to Virginia but I’m not sure about the others. It will probably be an official visit.”
Brooks watched his favorite team play last Thursday night versus Clemson, saying they “looked pretty good.” UVa’s coaches recently paid a visit to Duquesne to see Brooks, who still appears to be one of the remaining targets on the board.
“Coach Rocco came by my practice during my bye week,” Brooks said. “Since then they’ve continued to send letters. They call me every week. The last time I talked to them was the week before last. They just tell me to keep my team going on the right track and keep running hard.”
Brooks says UVa has not spoken with him about the scholarship situation. He still wants to wait until close to Signing Day to announce a decision. Narrowing his list may not come any time soon either.
“I’m mainly focused on my season,” Brooks said. “I’ll probably think about narrowing my list a couple of weeks after the season is over.”
Brooks has helped Duquesne to a 5-2 record in 2004. He has rushed for about 970 yards in 7 games.
“I’m playing pretty good,” Brooks said. “I’m making a lot of hard runs this year.”
He feels he is making progress academically as well.
“School is going pretty good,” Brooks said. “I’m going to sit down with my coach to figure that stuff out after the season is over. I’m going to take the SAT in November.”
